Butler Lands First Commitment of 2014 Class

The Butler Bulldogs and new head coach Brandon Miller landed their first commitment of the 2014 class on Friday in big man Tyler Wideman.

He had just received an offer this past week from the Bulldogs, and chose Butler over offers from Bradley, Central Michigan, Indiana State, Kent State, Loyola, and Northern Illinois. A 6’7 power forward/center is listed at 245 pounds, although he is realistically closer to around 270 pounds. Wideman, who will be going into his senior year at Lake Central High School, is rated as a 3 star prospect on Scout.com and has a 70 rating on ESPN.

Wideman, who was an Indiana Junior All-Star, has a Big East body and is raw skill-wise. He has a nice touch offensively and uses his body well to get position for rebounds. He will need to spend some time getting quicker, though, starting by shedding a few pounds. Here is a link to a highlight video of Wideman: http://youtu.be/YK647936rhQ

Overall, this is a kid with the size and potential to be a Big East player. If he develops well, this will be a really solid get for the Dawgs.
