Despite not being drafted this past Thursday, Andrew Smith will indeed get his shot at an NBA roster this summer when he will lace it up for the Oklahoma City Thunder later this month.
First reported by Pacers’ writer Scott Agnes, Andrew Smith chose the Thunder despite also having an offer from his hometown team in the Pacers.
Regardless, this should give him a chance to show scouts everything he can do on the court and will show if that will be enough to earn him a spot on the regular season roster. If not, he will, at the very least, be putting himself out there for scouts overseas in hopes to earn a basketball contract in a country other than the United States.
Taking place in Orlando, the NBA Summer League begins July 7 and will run through the 12 and then there will also be a league in Las Vegas that will extend later in the summer. Chances are Smith will play in both.
Overall, the fact that Butler’s former center was not selected in the NBA Draft did not come as a big surprise, but this month will be very important in determining where his basketball career will take him next.
