As the 2015 contact period opened up this weekend, many expected news of an offer being extended to one of Butler’s top 2015 targets. To this point, however, no news of the such has presented itself.
Instead, Butler has offered another 2014 point guard out of Florida, which is starting to become a trend. This time, it is Lance Tejada Jr. who is rated at No. 138 in Rivals’ Top 150 rankings.
At 5-11, Tejada Jr. isn’t someone who will beat the defense with his size or strength, but his speed makes up for his lack of frame, allowing him to get to the basketball almost at will. These quialities seem to be consistent in what Butler is looking for as well, as almost every 2014 point guard the coaching staff has offered up to this point is a small, quick guard that can get to the lane.
Up to this point, Tejada Jr. has offers from a fair amount of high-major schools including Alabama, Florida State, Miami Florida and Virginia. While Butler isn’t necessarily too late to this recruitment, they definitely were not the first to show interest in the talented guard.
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how much of a factor the Bulldogs can be in this recruitment and if they can lock up any commitments any time soon.
